2009

January 2, 2009 · 2 Comments

nye_20092Starting as I meant to go on, I drew on New Year’s Eve.  I watched the 9 o’clock fireworks on t.v.  thought about it for a while, and decided to draw. This is my impression of what the harbour looked like – not aiming for realism, but for atmosphere. I was drawing with a multitude of art materials on Stonehenge paper -  glitter and gel pens for the fireworks, tombow pens for the reflections. The blues were darkened with an Indigo water colour pencil, and all finished off with a lot of  white pen. Many layers here ! It was just as well I finished before the fireworks at midnight, because they made the harbour look totally different.

So goals for 2009……apart from the usual food and drink ones.  I am not going to beat myself up for ‘not drawing’ when I’ve been crazily painting, making books, decorating papers & making collographs. So I just want to do something arty every day.

I saw this great chart on Carolyn’s blog. I’m going to make one myself, and colour c0-ordinate my activities. Blue for drawing, red for collographs, yellow for paper art, and  green for books, or somesuch. So far I’m doing well. Yesterday (1st) I made decorated papers, today (2nd) I’ve drawn in my sketchbook, tomorrow I have a sample dry medium painting to work on, and Monday a friend is coming to make coptic books. So that leaves Sunday.

I seem to have managed 2 comments on your last post but I was sure I hadn’t. Must have been too late at night. I do like Carolyn’s chart, a really good idea and easy to do. Make you feel good too at the end if you’ve filled it up. I didn’t see the fireworks but you’ve captured the feel of the Harbour beautifully. You’re so busy, you deserve to have a bit of a break.

Happy New Year, Wendy. Your fireworks look brilliant, better than I saw on the SMH website.

Have a great year of art !
