One of the many things I learnt while I was doing Kate Johnston’s Watercolour Pencil Class was that my drawing seems to be more about tone than line. That means I have a battle to get enough pigment on the paper to get dark enough darks. Week was mixed media, so I decided to do an experiment. I have a set of Tombow pens, but I must say I find the colours too strong for a lot of things. I decided to use that to my advantage and use the Tombows for my darks. I only used three colours of them – a dark green, a medium green and a bright red. The red was used over the dark green to get my blacks. Only the darkest tones are in Tombow – the mid tones and the light tones are all in watercolour pencil.

Beautiful! Love the bold colors on the leaves, and soft and delicate aspect of the flowers.

This is beautiful. I would never be able to figure out the media or mixed-media. Great job.
