Palms

I have wanted to draw palm leaves for quite some time now. On Saturday afternoon I started to draw a formal garden and realised I wasn’t at all in the mood. I found this stand of palms at the southern end of the Herb Garden and they were just the thing.

The colour at the left side is where the Twin Ponds drawing has been brought across the fold. Tonal values being so important to me, I found it difficult not to put in the darkest darks in the back behind the palms. I may still fiddle with it, but then,  it’s a sketch, not a finished work. I plan to draw some more palms – there is so much you can do with them.

  1. This is another fabulous piece. I love the fresh greens.

  2. I love your palm leaves, Wendy. So nice to see your post on EDM. I have been sunk in kitchen remodel mode, but was just thinking about you and your sketching class today. Our thoughts crossed the ocean.

Wish I could be there with you , Liz and the others to sketch in the garden.

  3. Beautiful work! I think the white works extremely well here. Have you ever seen your site on an iPad? This image, full screen, looks stunning!
