Yesterday in the Botanic Gardens the lotuses are blooming again. Not so many yet, and enormous leaves this year. Is that because it has been so wet and cold? Maybe many of the flowers are yet to come. Still, it was a beautiful sunny day and in the full sun, hot hot hot. That is, as long as you weren’t in the wind when it was jolly cold and sometimes you even needed a jacket on. Anyway by the pond sketching the lotuses it was just beautiful and we were happy to be in the sun, watching the ducks and the red nosed hooter tooters and some other small but aggressive waterbird that would attack the ibis and everything else in sight. It swam under the water, hunting I expect, then jumped up on a rock with its wings spread wide drying itself off. I’ve never seen one of those there before.
Later we looked for interesting trees to draw and totally lost our bearings for the ones we knew from last year. We found some new ones though and I am unable to tell you what they are because they weren’t labelled. Fun though, aren’t they. Must find out what they are.

yay! great sketches… I will have to try to find time to visit and sketch them this year!
Beautiful!
