Had to buy our tickets for departure the following day, so consoled ourselves with a very fine gelato in a bar in Piazza Maggiore on the left of this building, Palazzo Podestá, underneath the colonnades (cioccolata and pistachio). Very drastic stairs up or down to the loo in these huge palazzi with high ceilings. While eating my gelato I sketched the building opposite, Palazzo dei Notai, built in 1381.
After dumping stuff, heavy sketchbook and art materials, getting heavier by the day with the collage, we went for a walk around the university district (wonderful as always) and to look at a market (disappointing). We were directed to a Greek restaurant and had an amazing lunch of small plates, octopus, fetta cheese….ummm, I don’t remember but it was yummy.
Last night on Bologna, we went back to the spot where we spent the first morning, Davini, to eat one of their delicious salads. After that, we walked in the dark around the huge battlements at the back and sides of these old old buildings around Piazza Maggiore.
